Artist James Lomax curates the guest exhibition Another point of you, James Cross presenting a new body of sculpture and installation that investigates the subtleties of human responses. Enlisting a plethora of sources, he examines the conversations created by the interactions of objects and images, and encourages their evolving dialogue. Each work seeks to provide an atmosphere, a basis for questions to arise.
Much of James’ practice hinges upon the understanding and misunderstanding of imagery and ideas. James is intrigued by the repetition of forms within visual culture that have signifying importance in the development of identity. He is interested in how objects and images can be resonant in contributing to our idea of identity, and how the distortion of such forms could provide an alternative outcome. Subtly challenging the known, to provide a sense of the unknown, an ease coupled with an unease.
James Cross studied at the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art and currently lives and works in London. Upcoming in 2018 he has residencies at Can Serrat, El Bruc, Spain, and Kunstnahuset Messen, Alvik, Norway.
