Joanne Masding at Manchester Contemporary 2018

Joanne Masding at Manchester Contemporary 2018
12 – 14 October 2018
Manchester Central

Recent Activity is organised by artist Andrew Gillespie. Running since 2015, Nomadic Vitrine invites artists to respond to a travelling display case. The vitrine, itself a redundant sculpture, replaces the gallery as a space for artists to create work in/on/for and is situated in a different location with every exhibition. Joanne Masding contributes to this iteration of the project, presenting a display of new works.

Joanne Masding works in Birmingham, UK. Through sculpture and video, Masding makes work to investigate the worth, ownership and production of physical stuff, and how it translates to a world that’s increasingly digital, immaterial and reproducible. Recent exhibitions include: In the Peaceful Dome, Bluecoat, Liverpool, 2017-18; Touche Eclat, Workplace, Gateshead, 2017; Plaster Ghost Finger Cast, The New Art Gallery, Walsall, 2017 (solo). Masding has been artist in residence at 501 Artspace, Chongqing, China, Temple Bar Gallery and Studios, Dublin, Ireland and with Research and Cultural Collections at University of Birmingham. Masding’s permanent commission Flimsy Signals, made for developers Bruntwood Group, launches in late 2018.
